The kinetic magic of ballet and literary wonder of Shakespeare collide in the National Ballet of Canada's stunning production of Romeo and Juliet, which takes a bow in Toronto in the Summer of 2023. Given new life by Russian American master choreographer Alexei Ratmansky in 2011, this compelling revival stays true to the original story's complex emotional scope whilst giving it a thoroughly modern and viscerally physical outlook.
The son and daughter of the opposing great houses Capulet and Montague, Romeo and Juliet are never meant for each other. But drawn together by fate at a Capulet party where Romeo is able to hide is identity under a carnival mask, the star crossed lovers meet and embark on one of the most exquisite and sorrowful love stories ever told. Torn apart by the deaths of their compatriots and companions, they attempt to elope but a single mistake ends in fatal tragedy for them both.
