Magaret Atwood's beloved trilogy of speculative fiction comes to life in this brand new collaboration between the National Ballet of Canada and the Royal Ballet in London. Created by Wayne McGregor and scored by Max Richter, the stories from Oryx and Crake, Year of The Flood and Madddam are to be staged in a thrilling triptych that explores the distinctive landscapes and challenges faced by a small group of survivors after a biological catastrophe.
With the first of the novels, Oryx and Crake, published in 2003, Margaret Atwood envisages earth wrought by a large biological disaster but stops short of describing the novels as science fiction, commenting that the stories are largely grounded in reality, with nothing "we can't yet do or begin to do" in them. As such her work is profoundly realistic, touching on humanity, extinction, invention and survival.
