Canadian Opera Company - Salome
Richard Strauss's thrilling adaptation of the macabre tale
Why see Canadian Opera Company - Salome?
The dance of death
Richard Strauss's fierce heroine Salome is presented by the Candian Opera Company in this powerhouse new production from Academy Award nominee Atom Egoyan. Starring Ambur Braid as the titular Princess, Salome is a debauched carnival of high drama, knife-edge tension, and intensity that culminates in one of opera's most famous dances.
What is the story?
Based on a German translation of a play by Oscar Wilde, Salome follows the titular Princess as she wreaks havoc in the palace with her demands and petulance. Fascinated by the prisoner Jokhanaan, she stops at nothing to possess his heart, asking King Herod to help her. Sexually charged and lavish, Salome isn't for everyone, but those that dare will not be disappointed by the Canadian Opera Company.
