How music united the world for one special day.
On July 13th, 1985, audiences came together on two continents, gearing up for a huge day of music, with an estimated 72,000 attending in person at London's Wembley Stadium and 89,484 at Philadephia's JFK Stadium, with an additional 1.5 billion tuning in on television and radio across the globe through transmissions provided by 13 military satellites.
Organised by two of the UK's biggest musicians at the time Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the duo managed to wrangle a lineup made in heaven to come together for the biggest fundraising event in history, aimed at tackling famine in Ethiopia.

First to take to the stage in London was the Coldstream Guards, followed by Status Quo who set the tone with the anthem 'Rockin' All Over The World'. Followed by Dire Straits, the atmosphere went stratospheric when Queen rolled up. Playing a 21-minute set, later voted the best live performance ever, the quartet wowed the crowd with a medley of their greatest hits including Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and
We Are The Champions.

After proceedings ended in London, it was Phildelphia's turn to rock the world, opening with Joan Baez, who was followed by another incredible smorgasbord of performers including Phil Collins who raced by plane from Wembley to appear again!

How much did they raise?
The entire day is now thought to have raised 150 million ($265,982,250) for the Band Aid Charitable Trust, which went on to be used for the relief of hunger and poverty in Ethiopia and beyond. Still a working charity to this day, 10% of all tickets sold for Just For One Day will go to Band Aid, to help people in need today.
